Professional Designation & Oral Board Exam
General members of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP) are designated as Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals and may display the certification mark “CIRP” after their name.
To be eligible to become a general member of the CAIRP, candidates must:
1. complete the CQP Program,
2. pass the National Insolvency Examination,
3. apply to become a general member of CAIRP subject to a final approval of CAIRP’s Executive Committee or Board of Directors.
Chartered Accountants may apply for the specialist designation, CA●CIRP, from their provincial institute as soon as they receive the CIRP designation (except in Québec, which does not recognize specialties).
General members who wish to use the CIRP certification mark must sign a licence agreement issued by CAIRP.
In addition, candidates who successfully complete the Program will be invited to sit the Oral Board examination administered by the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (OSB) for the purpose of obtaining a license as a Trustee in Bankruptcy.
Candidates will receive their Trustee license upon successful completion of the Oral Board exam and the Insolvency Counsellors Qualification Course, provided they comply with the requirements in OSB Directive 13R2.
Further questions regarding the licensing process should be addressed directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Licensing, Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy at (613) 941-2697. General information on trustee licensing can also be found on the OSB's website at: http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/bsf-osb.nsf/intro.
