Experience Requirement

Candidates must acquire a minimum of 2,400 hours of relevant insolvency experience over the duration of the Program.  This must be completed prior to writing the CQP National Insolvency Examination (CNIE)[1].

The articling period should enable candidates to gain experience in the following areas including, but not limited to:

  • fact finding, including, but not limited to; identification of assets and liabilities, assessment of risks and alternative courses of action;
  • the administration of a file, including, but not limited to; taking possession of assets, realization of assets, assessment and review of claims, preparation of statements of affairs, reporting, preparation of receipts and disbursements, meetings of creditors, finalization of accounts, distribution and discharge of the bankrupt and the Insolvency and Restructuring Professional;
  • the application of legal concepts, including, but not limited to; precedents from case law, court procedures and protocol;
  • the use of information technology and research tools;  
  • counselling, mediation and conflict resolution techniques; and
  • supervision of staff and delegation of tasks.

Candidates will be required to submit a yearly summation of their professional activities in the subject areas listed above, and an employer will need to corroborate the number of hours listed. Candidates will not be allowed to attempt the CNIE until the 2,400-hour requirement has been achieved.  

 

 

  

 
 


  

[1]       The experience requirement is also in force for candidates currently enrolled in the NIQP and planning to write the National Insolvency Exam (NIE) in 2010 or 2011.
