CIF FAQ
What is the Canadian Insolvency Foundation (CIF)?
CIF is a not-for-profit multi-disciplinary organization founded by Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP). It is dedicated to research and education related to insolvency and bankruptcy legislation and practices, both corporate and personal, and to the skills of restructuring, refinancing, corporate rescues and turnarounds. CIF is also to make reports and suggestions to Governments for improvements to laws that affect the effective operation of the system.
Who are the Foundations members?
All members of CAIRP are automatically members of CIF. Membership is also open to all those whose work involves areas of insolvency and restructuring mentioned above, on a full-time, part-time or occasional basis. They include:
- lawyers
- lenders
- credit counsellors
- academics
- the judiciary
- regulators
- others who have a genuine interest and stake in the insolvency system and the potential to make a positive contribution to the objects of the Foundation.
There are three categories of membership:
- Practitioners and Lenders - for insolvency professionals in the banking and legal communities
- General Members - this category is for judges, regulators, government officials, academics and credit counselors
- Students - this category is intended for those enrolled in the law faculties at universities across Canada
What are the benefits of membership?
CIF members receive:
- A membership certificate;
- Invitations to periodic luncheon and/or dinner meetings and seminars;
- An invitation to attend the CAIRP Annual Insolvency Forum;
- The opportunity to network with insolvency professionals, to exchange views on insolvency-related issues, and to participate in research projects.
- Eligibility for membership in committees working on insolvency issues.
- Membership in an advisory group recognized as an influential contributor to improvement of the insolvency system.
What is the cost of membership?
The CIF membership fees are included in the annual dues of CAIRP members. Others pay a nominal membership fee of $100 per annum, plus GST.
